I'm Latin! / Y esoooooo!!!!

Today some smiles, but real smiles!!!

How many of you knew that I like all the Latin rhythms? I guess all of you. Finally and by request of friends (well, they didn’t need to use many convincing weapons) I arranged a party with Latin music and a little dance (some more than others) The guests that never met me before where in quite a shock: I dressed up and I was playing Cristina on the Block from the Bronx and I talked with a portorican/andalusian accent. Fabrics are very cheap here and the same with tailors, so I’ve got made some tiger pants and a red shirt for Mikkel. Really funny!
Cheers!

Do you have enough?/Tienes suficiente?

Today instead of smiles, I thought about tears.

A couple of days ago a little girl was following me. She was one of these “professional” beggars. I was in a noisy road with smoke and the almost unbearable heat. She was pulling my blouse. After a while a bunch of men came to me to shout the little girl to tell her to go. I looked at her and I told her: remember school, education, ok? I don’t know if she understood me. I only hope this will stay in her heart for her future children. I pushed her aside and she was left behind me alone. My soul started to cry. Today I still remember her. Today I’m still touched after several months here. I remember what my friend once told me about India: when you are there, you’ll realize soon what it is like to born in hell, some people there live in hell. Once I remembered that when I saw barefoot men cleaning the toilet drains with their hands: that must be hell. These children must be in hell, too. Think what you have and what your own children have. God bless these human beings. Think what you have around you and bless them!

Mi alma empezó a llorar.

Havelock - Andamans

We spent our last vacation in Havelock Island, Andamans, India.

Finally I got the courage to take the open water dive course and….. I passed!!! Well we passed, of course Mikkel was there, too but he was not scared of water so his certificate doesn’t count as mine… hehe…

Well, to tell you the truth I was really scared, but we put the suit and the equipment on (that took like an hour in the first day ha ha ha!) and we jumped into the water and I was ok! I was much more scared when I was in the surface than inside the water! The course actually took a lot of work and time, too. We went to the dive center every morning around 7 and we had breakfast and then off we went to the ocean. In the beach, like two meters deep, we did all the skills and that was the most scary part, you know all this training in case of emergency like taking the mask off, the regulator, pretending you don’t have any air, pretending your buddy doesn’t have any air, pretending you can’t swim any more due to extenuation, pretending you find your buddy diver been eaten by the sharks, pretending a plane crash in your diving area and you alone have to rescue all the passengers, the crew and find black box… So we had to be trained in these unexpected situations that really make you wonder why we were doing that. Then in the evening we had to read the book and make all the quizzes for the next day. That for four days and I tell you that we were exhausted! But then came the diving… wow!!! The world is beautiful down there. All those corals and all the fish. While snorkeling you can’t come any closer but while diving you can come closer and take time to watch all the colors and shapes. I loved it!!!! Now we really want to try again! We had our last exam, we passed and we felt so good.

The Island is beautiful. It had the backpack spirit. It was a pain to reach there: we took a flight in the evening to Chennai, we waited five hours in an airport with nothing to do, I mean no shops or internet and air conditioned like we were in the middle of a winter storm. From Chennai we took the flight to Port Blair, there we waited three hours and we took a Ferry to Havelock Island. Uuuffff.

Havelock is a humble place where you meet backpackers and divers and we felt once more like traveling in a budget. The diving center was really nice, simple but with all that you needed. Somehow all the divers that we met were really fun and were open to great conversations. We loved it!!! Our accommodation at the Wild Orchid was simple even when we got to know that it was the best place in the Island to stay! It was actually expensive for what they offered, but we had a really good time there and the stuff was so helpful. You could actually find huts for a couple of euros per night. The food was simple, the island was very humble (the only thing we could shop was a couple of T-shirts) but the spirit was great, the people friendly, no beggars, no pollution, only the island and you. We rented a scooter and we were cruisin’ around. It was fun! Even the dogs where friendlier there! All in all a great experience. We both felt really happy there. We got to see the Beach No 5 and No 7 The only thing I was really sad about was that we didn’t have any underwater camera this time. It could have been turned into great underwater pictures! And I already mentioned in the last blog that my pictures this time were not the kind that National Geographic wanted to buy… but take a look to have an idea of what we saw.

A little update from us / Aqui sigo

We just came back from another vacation. Mikkel had some remaining days to take off before the 1st of May and he didn’t want to loose them. So we decided to do what we had in mind for some time but I (only me in this case) never found the courage do to… Scuba diving. I’m a little scared of water, but since I came here and started to swim regularly I feel more comfortable in the water. So we finally took off from Bangalore to see the deep ocean. I would need a couple of days to check the pictures and find some nice ones to show you. I’m more and more interested about photography. I’m finding myself reading information about photography and about compositions. And everyday I want to learn a little more. Until now most of my pictures came from what I see and makes me feel something and then I try to catch it on the picture. This time I tried to work a little more in the technical side, finding the right place to focus and finding the foreground and the background and so on and so on… The result: terrible pictures!!! Never before I had so many blur pictures and so many pictures that I don’t feel any power in them… But hey! It’s the beginning! And I don’t want to give up and want to keep learning! But now I wish I had a real camera, not a compact one but a good one. And Mikkel’s camera broke in the middle of the vacation. It can still take pictures but the screen is not working any more. Any good friends out there? If you are really a good friend then show it and buy me a camera as a friendship gift! I promise to be really really surprise when I unwrap it!!! Hehe…

Well, after a couple of days I’ll write a little review from our trip so you can hear what we did and maybe you find inspiration for your next holiday. I’ll post the pictures, too. I need anyway a little time because very often when I come back home from vacation I’m in a little gloomy mood. Back to reality where I have so may unanswered questions in my mind and that makes me feel a bit lost… I just need a couple of days of retreat ;-)
